Coco Gauff Advances to Semifinals at China Open
The current champion, Coco Gauff, has secured her place in the China Open semifinals for the third consecutive year, after defeating Eva Lys with a score of 6-3, 6-4 this Thursday. Gauff, who holds the second seed in the tournament, faced challenges in her serve, conceding seven break opportunities. However, Lys, a German player seeking her first WTA title, could only convert three of them and lost her own serve on five occasions against the French Open champion. In the next phase, Gauff will face Amanda Anisimova, the third seed, who managed a comeback after losing the first set to defeat Jasmine Paolini with scores of 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4, in a match that lasted 2 hours and 49 minutes. This victory secures Anisimova’s participation in the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, next month, marking her first appearance in the tournament. In the decisive set, Anisimova overcame a critical moment at 4-3, with 40-15 against her serve, managing to hold it. Finally, she served to win the match against Paolini, who recently contributed to Italy retaining the Billie Jean King Cup. This was only the second encounter between both players, four years after Anisimova defeated Paolini in straight sets on clay in Palermo, Italy. She’s a tough opponent. She made incredible shots on the run. I was trying my best to stay aggressive. Just staying confident in my game and not being too passive.
