NEW YORK – Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa, who reached the top 10 in the world, withdrew from the US Open this Friday due to a back injury that has kept her off the courts since her defeat in the first round of Wimbledon on June 30.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) confirmed Badosa’s withdrawal. In her place, Jil Teichmann will enter the tournament. Alizé Cornet, who retired from tennis in 2024 but returned this year, is next on the list to get a spot in the main draw at Flushing Meadows if another player withdraws.
The start of the tournament is scheduled for August 24 in the individual categories of the last Grand Slam of the year.
Badosa, 27 years old and originally from Spain, reached number 2 in the world ranking in 2022, the best of her career, and currently holds the number 12 position.
In January, he reached the semifinals of the Australian Open. His best performance at the US Open was reaching the quarterfinals last year.
