Alcaraz leads the “One Point Slam” at the Australian Open

The tennis player Carlos Alcaraz will headline the new “One Point Slam” event at the upcoming Australian Open, organizers announced on Tuesday. This tournament will pit 10 amateur players against 22 professionals. The overall winner will receive a prize of AUS$1 million (approximately $700,000), a sum slightly less than what the semi-finalists in the men’s and women’s individual categories of the main tournament will receive. This event, which will be held during the opening weekend of the Grand Slam, follows the US Open’s initiative to attract new attention to tennis by expanding its mixed doubles competition. The “One Point Slam” will deliver on its promise: each match will consist of a single point. A pre-game of “rock, paper, scissors” will decide who serves.

Today I can reveal that world number 1, Carlos Alcaraz, will headline the lineup of professional players at the Million Dollar 1 Point Slam, a new and exciting initiative where a single point could win you $1 million.

The registrations will open soon in clubs across the country, and during Opening Week, the finalists will compete for the opportunity to face the professionals at Rod Laver Arena. More big names will be announced soon, so there’s now a million reasons to pick up a racket and get ready for January.
