Wrexham Strengthens with Lewis O’Brien for the Championship

Wrexham, preparing for their return season to the Championship, has announced the addition of midfielder Lewis O’Brien, coming from Nottingham Forest of the Premier League. The 26-year-old footballer arrives at the club for an undisclosed sum and has signed a three-year contract. O’Brien joined Forest in 2022, but only participated in 13 Premier League matches, in addition to spending time on loan at D.C. United and LAFC of the MLS, as well as Middlesbrough and Swansea City of the Championship.

I’m very excited. It’s taken a long time to get here, but being here is great.

Lewis O’Brien
Lewis O'Brien spent several spells out on loan during his three years at Nottingham Forest.

O’Brien added: “The last few years have been a whirlwind for me and my family, but signing a long-term contract and finding a place to call home is a great feeling.” “After speaking with everyone here, it’s a club with a lot of ambition. I want to be part of that journey and take Wrexham to where it wants to be.” O’Brien has 162 appearances in the Championship, which will bring valuable experience to the Wrexham team, who achieved a third consecutive promotion last season, securing a place in the English second division for the first time in 42 years.

I am delighted to welcome Lewis to the club. He is a very experienced player at this level and will be a great addition to the group. We are looking forward to working with him.

Backed by Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham have already brought in New Zealand international defender Liberato Cacace this summer, from Italian side Empoli, as well as attacking midfielder Josh Windass, who arrived on a free transfer after leaving Sheffield Wednesday.
