Wrexham Seeks to Regain Strength After Defeat to West Brom

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has expressed his desire for his team to regain their “grit” after suffering their second consecutive defeat in the championship, under the watchful eye of their famous owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Hollywood stars witnessed the match at the SToK Cae Ras, where Wrexham fell 3-2 against West Bromwich Albion, in their first home match in the second tier of English football since 1982. Albion exploited Wrexham’s defensive weaknesses, with Isaac Price finding space on two occasions in front of the goal and Jed Wallace beating Welsh goalkeeper Danny Ward.

I think we were good between both areas, we showed good control in our game with and without the ball. But the goals we conceded were too easy, it’s as simple as that. We have to find tenacity and defend our area better.

Parkinson added that the team needs to regain the grit it showed in League Two and that they are working on it through training and video analysis.

After the 2-1 defeat against Southampton on the first day of the season, there were positive aspects for the newly promoted Wrexham. Lewis O’Brien scored the equalizing goal and Sam Smith scored near the end of the match. Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead, who came on as a substitute in the first half after Josh Windass’s injury, also showed signs of a promising partnership.

The players we have brought in at the moment are very good and I am happy with the way they have adapted. We probably need a couple more players, we are working on it.

West Brom, under the direction of new coach Ryan Mason, has started off on the right foot. The Albion, after being eliminated from the Carabao Cup on Tuesday after losing in the penalty shootout against Derby, defeated Blackburn in their first league match and this was their first away win since they defeated Hull last November, 16 games ago.

When you win matches, confidence accelerates, and that is our challenge for everyone to unite and continue to progress. I don’t feel it on my part because I trust and believe in the people I work with, who are going to deliver results. It’s more for the players. Winning the first two league matches is very positive for us.
