Shaun Harvey, Wrexham’s non-executive director, has called the speculation about Phil Parkinson’s possible departure as manager an “absolute disgrace”, insisting that the club will not “panic” despite a difficult start to the season. Parkinson led Wrexham to three consecutive promotions. However, after a difficult start in the Championship, where the Welsh team occupies the 21st position with only one victory in five matches, some local media reported on conversations between owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney about the future of the coach. Harvey has stated that Parkinson has the full backing of the board.

It’s an absolute disgrace.

Harvey, in statements, referred to reports about internal discussions. “We have to face the facts. There will be speculation… What is happening in Wrexham? Are there disappointments about the results? Yes. We are disappointed not to have four points at this moment,” he added. He went on to say that the club is “far” from having a problem with Parkinson, who has been at the helm of the team for almost the entire Reynolds and McElhenney ownership.

Phil has the full support of the club. It’s not a vote of confidence. What I’m saying is that he has all our support. A vote of confidence can only be given when the future has been discussed. It hasn’t even been on the agenda yet.

Harvey also pointed out that Reynolds and McElhenney would be involved in any future decisions.

We’ve backed Phil from the start. We’ve backed him for four years. We’ve had all the success under that regime. Why would we panic now? Phil is our man, we support him. He needs to be given time to take us back to the top of the table, to give us the best chance of success. The day we have a problem, we’ll address it. But, gosh, we’re a long way from that at the moment.

Harvey added that Reynolds and McElhenney would be involved if a decision was ever made. The non-executive director concluded by saying: “They authorized the dismissal of Dean Keates [in 2021], so they have a 100% participation record in major decisions. They will have an opinion and will participate in that process.”
