Liverpool’s technical director, Arne Slot, has expressed his “blame” for the team’s poor performance, calling the recent results “ridiculous”. The 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest last Saturday marked Liverpool’s sixth loss in seven Premier League matches. This situation represents the first time since 1965 that Slot’s team has lost consecutive league matches by a margin of three goals. This series of results has relegated the team to twelfth position in the table, eleven points away from the leader, Arsenal. Hopes of retaining the title seem to be fading. It’s ridiculous. It’s incredible. I’ve said many times that we will never find enough excuses for us to play like this. It’s unexpected for the club, for me, for everyone.

Slot added that, despite the adversity, the club remains united. When asked about how he handles external pressure, the coach responded that he remains calm thanks to his character.

To be honest, I didn’t expect to be in this situation with the way we approach things tactically and the quality of players we have. We would never have expected to lose so much. I can say that in the last four games we have lost two, and in the Champions League we have won three. Let’s see how it goes, but it’s below the expected level at Liverpool. Of course, I take responsibility and feel guilty about it.

Liverpool might not have midfielder Florian Wirtz for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven. Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley also missed Tuesday’s training.
