West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá expressed his frustration after being sent off in the match against Liverpool, calling the situation a reflection of the “ridiculous” two years he has had to endure. Paquetá, who was cleared of four charges of suspicious betting by the FA earlier this year, referred to the investigation that affected his career. The Brazilian player received a red card on Sunday, after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession, the second for protesting.

It’s ridiculous that your life and career are affected for two years without any psychological support from the federation.

Paquetá used social media to express his feelings, sharing a video of the expulsion and adding: “Perhaps this ridiculous behavior is just a reflection of everything I’ve had to endure and, apparently, I have to keep enduring! I’m sorry I’m not perfect.” In Portuguese, the Brazilian international added: “I understand that now I have to seem like the villain; it’s difficult to live with everything that has been caused in my life and in my mental health! I will continue trying to prevent it from affecting me even more. This does not justify my expulsion, and that’s why I apologize to the fans and my teammates!”
  • Alexander Isak scored the first Premier League goal for Liverpool in the crucial victory at West Ham.
  • Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was a substitute for the first time in the Premier League under Arne Slot.
Liverpool’s goals were scored by Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo, leaving Nuno Espirito Santo’s team in seventeenth position. Nuno stated that he would not comment on the expulsion until he spoke with the player. In October, Paquetá was cautioned and warned about his future conduct for not cooperating with the investigation into the allegations of suspicious betting.
