Monchi leaves Aston Villa after two seasons at the club.
Aston Villa’s president of football operations, Monchi, has left the club after a winless start to the season, according to sources close to him.
Monchi, 57 years old, arrived at Villa in June 2023, where he reunited with Unai Emery, with whom he had a successful period at Sevilla.
In his two seasons at Villa, the team finished fourth and sixth in the Premier League, as well as advancing to the Champions League quarter-finals last year. The Birmingham team failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second consecutive year after losing to Manchester United on the last day of last season.
This summer was complicated for Villa in terms of signings, with only Evann Guessand and Marco Bizot signing permanent contracts. Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho joined on loan on the last day of the market, and Victor Lindelöf arrived as a free agent.
Unai Emery’s team has had a difficult start to this Premier League campaign, without winning any of their first five matches and only scoring one goal, which came last weekend thanks to Matty Cash in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, who played with 10 men.
