Messi and Miami: Ongoing negotiations to extend the contract

Negotiations to extend Lionel Messi’s contract with Inter Miami CF beyond 2025 are ongoing, according to sources close to the club. Despite rumors linking Messi to other teams, both Inter Miami and the Argentine star maintain their interest in staying together. Messi signed with Inter Miami in July 2023 a two-and-a-half-year contract, valid until the end of the 2025 MLS season. The team will take the necessary measures to ensure Messi’s continuity, with cautious optimism about the renewal. Inter Miami will inaugurate its new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, for the 2026 season.

Messi has led Inter Miami to win their first titles, including the Leagues Cup 2023 and the Supporters’ Shield 2024, setting a points record in a league season.

The Supporters’ Shield granted Inter Miami a spot in the 2025 Club World Cup, where they advanced to the knockout phase. Individually, Messi has accumulated 31 goals and 22 assists in 38 regular season MLS matches, and was awarded the league MVP in 2024. He also recorded seven goals and two assists in nine Concacaf Champions Cup matches during the 2024 and 2025 campaigns. Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano stated that he doesn’t talk to Messi about his contract situation, preferring to focus conversations on the game.
