New Trial in Maradona Case: Court Declares the Process Null
An Argentine court has declared a null trial in the case involving seven healthcare professionals accused of negligence in the death of Diego Armando Maradona. This decision marks a new turn in a trial that has kept the nation and the world of football on edge for more than two months.
The surprising resolution comes after the resignation of one of the three judges overseeing the trial, due to criticism related to her participation in a documentary about the case.
The judge’s ruling forced the court to make a crucial decision: appoint a new judge or repeat the entire process from the beginning.
On Thursday, the judges opted for the second option, which essentially takes the case back to its beginning. This means that all previous actions against Maradona’s medical team, accused of not having provided adequate care to the football star in his final days, are annulled.

The court has determined that a new trial will be held, although the start date has not yet been specified.
Julieta Makintach stated that she had “no other option” but to resign on Tuesday, after the prosecutor presented a preview of a documentary, “Divine Justice”, which recounts the consequences of Maradona’s death, and in which she appears as the protagonist.
Maradona, who led Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup, died on November 25, 2020, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, days after undergoing surgery for a hematoma.
