Manchester United Seeks to Bolster Goalkeeping; Emi Martínez in Sight

Manchester United are exploring the possibility of bringing in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martínez, according to sources close to the club. The United’s management is looking to reinforce the goalkeeper position before the transfer market closes on Monday. In addition to Martínez, contacts have also been maintained with Royal Antwerp for the young goalkeeper Senne Lammens, 23 years old. Interest in Martinez intensifies following the irregular performance of André Onana and Altay Bayindir, who have had complicated starts to the season. Onana made a mistake that resulted in a goal in the Carabao Cup elimination against Grimsby Town. Bayindir, for his part, has made mistakes in the Premier League matches against Arsenal and Burnley.

Emi Martínez could replace Altay Bayindir as the starting goalkeeper for Manchester United. Martínez was not included in the Aston Villa team for the Premier League match against Crystal Palace, amid interest from United. Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim was questioned about the goalkeepers’ situation after the 3-2 victory over Burnley and defended Bayindir and Onana.

“I think it’s difficult to be a Manchester United goalkeeper at the moment. The players are struggling a bit with everything surrounding the club. That’s normal. So it’s not just the goalkeepers. I think everyone has to improve”.

Sources indicate that Onana does not expect to leave United before the transfer deadline.

Jadon Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea. Meanwhile, Aston Villa is interested in Jadon Sancho. United wants Sancho to leave before the transfer deadline, and the 25-year-old player could join Villa on loan, in a separate deal from the possible signing of Martinez by United. Sancho has one year left on his contract with United and will become a free agent next summer. Furthermore, it is reported that Aston Villa is on the verge of signing Victor Lindelöf as a free agent. The central defender left United in the summer after eight years at the club.
