Lookman Requests Departure from Atalanta: The End of the Adventure?

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has formally requested a transfer, it was announced on Sunday. Lookman made the announcement via a statement on Instagram.

The 27-year-old player explained that the request comes “after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me, both as a human being and a professional footballer”.

Unfortunately, I feel I have no choice but to speak up for what I believe is right and I feel that enough is enough.

In the statement, Lookman added that it had already been decided that it was the “right time” for him to “move on and experience a new adventure”. He affirmed that both he and the club’s management were “in agreement” that now was the opportune moment for a transfer, and that the club agreed to let him leave if a fair offer was presented. Lookman revealed that an offer arrived, but that the club was not fulfilling its part of the agreement. “Despite having received an offer in line with what I believe had been discussed, unfortunately the club is blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand,” he stated. Lookman did not provide more details about the offer.
