LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris expressed his excitement about reuniting with Son Heung-Min, his former Tottenham Hotspur teammate, who is joining the MLS team. Both footballers shared nine years at the Premier League club before Lloris joined LAFC for the 2024 season. Son, South Korean star, now joins the Los Angeles team after a record transfer in the MLS, valued at approximately $26 million. It’s incredible to be together again. It’s a new chapter with a different shirt, but with the same ambition, the same motivation… He’s a great competitor. He was the captain of Tottenham for the last two years. He is the captain of his national team. Lloris admitted that he initially did not expect Son’s arrival, but now has high expectations for the forward, who signed as a designated player with a contract until 2027, with an option for 2028 and an additional option until June 2029. Son, after spending ten years at Tottenham, achieved a lot in the Premier League, both in statistics and image, being highly respected worldwide.

Seeing him come to MLS is great for the league, for the city, for the club, and also for our team because he is an example. There are many things to learn from him… I hope he has a great impact.

LAFC coach Steve Cherundolo also praised the addition.

Obviously, it’s an incredible signing for LAFC and for MLS, and I think we are a club that is well prepared for it. I am very happy for the players, for Sonny and, obviously, for everyone involved here at LAFC. His personality and, obviously, his quality on the field will help us on and off it, which is the ideal situation for any transfer.

Steve Cherundolo
Cherundolo added that Son is still training on his own, waiting to complete the visa process. In his presentation, Son described the move to LAFC as a “dream come true”, highlighting his “emotional” farewell to Tottenham. With Tottenham, Son scored 137 goals in all competitions and was the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot award in the 2021-22 season. LAFC is in sixth place in the Western Conference and will play away against Chicago Fire FC on Saturday.
