Liverpool Strengthens Defense with Giovanni Leoni

Liverpool have surpassed £300 million in summer spending with the addition of young defender Giovanni Leoni, coming from Parma. The 18-year-old footballer has signed a six-season contract. Leoni joins Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Joe Gomez as options for the central defense of coach Arne Slot. Last season, Leoni participated in 17 Serie A matches with Parma. The Italy U19 international will initially cost £26 million, plus add-ons. He is expected to join Slot’s team immediately to fill a position that has presented challenges, especially after Jarell Quansah’s transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.

His incorporation is subject to international approval and work permit, but he is expected to be available for the Premier League opening match against Bournemouth. In 2023, Leoni stated that he was inspired by Van Dijk, and now he will have the opportunity to learn from the Liverpool captain. Konaté is Van Dijk’s usual partner, but Leoni will compete with Gomez for a place in the team.

Because it’s one of the best clubs in the world, it’s not possible to say no to this club.
