Liverpool Honors Diogo Jota: Full Contract Payment to His Family
Liverpool, under the management of Arne Slot, has confirmed that the club’s owners will fulfill the full payment of the late forward Diogo Jota’s contract to his family. Jota, who lost his life at the age of 28 in a tragic car accident, will receive this posthumous tribute. The Portuguese footballer died alongside his brother André Silva on July 3, just eleven days after marrying his partner, Rute Cardoso, and leaving behind his three children. In an interview with TNT Sports, Slot revealed that the club will take over the remaining two years of Jota’s contract, which ran until the end of the 2026-27 season, in its entirety. The coach expressed his pride in the response of the fans and the club’s ownership.“I am very proud of how the fans and the ownership reacted… The owners are criticized, like the coaches, but the way they have handled this situation by paying his wife and children all the money from the contract is… perhaps people think it’s normal, but it isn’t in football.”

The coach added that, despite the pain, life goes on and the team must continue with its training and commitments.“It’s incredible what our fans and also our players have done, the way they behaved during and after the funeral.”
