Liverpool vs. Bournemouth Match Halted Due to Report of Discriminatory Abuse
The Premier League match between Liverpool and Bournemouth at Anfield was halted for three minutes in the first half due to a report of “discriminatory abuse” from a fan towards Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo. Referee Anthony Taylor approached the rival coaches, Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola, to inform them about the incident, which was reported by Semenyo, an international player for Ghana.
The statement also added: “This is in line with the anti-discrimination protocol in the Premier League field. The incident at Anfield will now be thoroughly investigated. We offer our full support to the player and both clubs. Racism has no place in our sport, nor anywhere in society. We will continue to work with stakeholders and authorities to ensure that our stadiums are an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.”“Tonight’s match between Liverpool Football Club and AFC Bournemouth was temporarily halted during the first half following a report of discriminatory abuse from the stands, directed at Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth,” the statement said.
