Barcelona’s young star, Lamine Yamal, has had the opportunity to meet his “idol”, Neymar, during a vacation in Brazil. In videos shared on social media, Yamal and Neymar can be seen playing footvolley, riding in a golf cart, and relaxing by a pool. Neymar shared a video of both of them, to which Yamal replied “My brother”. Yamal, 17, has been in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro this week, where he also met with world surfing champion Gabriel Medina. After an exhausting season for the club and the national team, which ended with Spain’s defeat against Portugal in the UEFA Nations League final on June 8, Yamal is enjoying a well-deserved summer break because Barça did not qualify for the Club World Cup.

Neymar, former Barça player, who now plays for Santos, also has free time due to the Brasileirao’s break for the Club World Cup. Yamal was six years old when Neymar arrived at Barça and, although he considers Lionel Messi the best of all time, he has always said that the Brazilian is the player he enjoys watching the most for his style on the field.

I was seven years old when I saw him play at Camp Nou and it was incredible. Neymar was something totally different. He has always been my idol. He is a star, a football legend.

Yamal also spoke about growing up “wearing Neymar’s jerseys”. Yamal is enjoying a well-deserved rest after a brilliant season with Barça, which culminated in the LaLiga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. He scored 18 goals and provided 25 assists in 55 games for his club last season, which led to him being considered for the Ballon d’Or. His performance has also led to comparisons with Messi and Neymar, and former Barça winger Gerard Deulofeu called him a “fusion” of both.
