Liverpool has finalized the signing of striker Alexander Isak, coming from Newcastle United, in a deal that sets a new record in British football. The Premier League champions accepted a £125 million (approximately $170 million) offer for the Swedish international in the early hours of Monday, and the player has signed a six-year contract with the Anfield club. Isak will wear the number 9 shirt.
The signing ends one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer, with Isak pushing for his departure from Newcastle for more than a month. The player has not been included in Eddie Howe’s team this season and issued a statement last month in which he claimed that Newcastle’s management had “broken” promises, and insisted that a transfer this summer would be best for all parties. Isak, 25 years old, becomes the most expensive signing in Premier League history, surpassing Moisés Caicedo, who joined Chelsea for £115 million from Brighton in the summer of 2023.It’s been a long road to get here. I am very happy to be a part of this team, this club, and everything it represents. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m looking forward to it.

I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I am a forward, but I always want to give the maximum possible to the team, mainly goals, but much more than that too. I want to win everything.
