Jeremie Frimpong: Wirtz’s arrival makes his signing by Liverpool more exciting
The new Liverpool full-back, Jeremie Frimpong, has expressed his enthusiasm for joining the club, highlighting the incorporation of his former Bayer Leverkusen teammate, Florian Wirtz. Frimpong revealed that Wirtz’s presence at Anfield makes his signing “extra fun”.
Frimpong joined Liverpool on May 30, from the Bundesliga club. Wirtz also joined the team, in a transfer that set a new club record.
The Wirtz deal is estimated at £116 million, including an initial payment of £100 million and £16 million in add-ons.Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz celebrating a Bundesliga title during their time at Bayer Leverkusen.Frimpong stated: “I am very excited. I really want to play with Liverpool. And, of course, Florian Wirtz, my good friend, is also coming. That makes it extra fun. I already know some guys from the national team. So yes, I am very excited. I can’t wait for it to start.”
The 24-year-old player, considered one of the most promising full-backs in the world, had a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave for 35 million euros.
Frimpong was ranked number 8 on the list of the best full-backs in the world.
The transfer of the international Dutchman to Liverpool comes after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s signing for Real Madrid. Frimpong hopes to play a key role in Arne Slot’s new team, which will seek to win the third Premier League title next season.
When asked about what Slot told him during the transfer process, Frimpong replied: “Yes, definitely. When I spoke to him for the first time, I immediately noticed that he was interested. He said he really wanted me at Liverpool and that I would fit in well in the team. And when you hear that Arne Slot wants you, and also to play at Liverpool, that’s an honor, you know? How could I say no?”
Both Frimpong and Wirtz could debut in the Premier League when Liverpool hosts Bournemouth in the opening match of the 2025-26 season.
