Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has expressed his ambition to take his motorsport team to Formula 2. In addition, the Belgian athlete admitted his desire to compete in GT3 races when he retires from professional football. Courtois, known for his passion for the world of motorsports, attended the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa last weekend and acquired his own team, TC Racing, in 2023. The team currently competes in Formula 4, but the Belgian national team goalkeeper revealed that he has higher long-term goals and would like to get personally involved in racing, as long as his height of 1.99 meters allows it.

We are currently racing in Formula 4 in Spain, but we would normally move up a level next year by participating in the Eurocup-3. Formula 1 can be a bit difficult, so it would need a very big partner. But the goal and our dream is to move up to Formula 3 and, hopefully, even Formula 2.

The goalkeeper added:

It involves more than I initially thought. There’s a lot of logistics involved. It was quite a challenge to have everything ready for the start of last year’s season, but we had a reasonably good first year and scored some points. This year is even better, but we’re still aiming higher.

Courtois, winner of two Champions League titles and three LaLiga titles with Real Madrid, is recognized as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. In addition to his sporting career, he maintains several business interests, including the esports team DUX Gaming, and TC Racing. The goalkeeper recounted that his passion for motorsport began by watching Formula 1, following Ferrari and Michael Schumacher since he was a child.

I even follow MotoGP, but it’s mainly motor racing and Formula 1 that I’m passionate about. A few years ago, I was asked to sponsor a Formula E team in Spain… Then I created my own team and my passion has only grown since then. I try to attend a Grand Prix whenever I can. I’ve already been to Monaco, Le Castellet, Barcelona and, of course, Spa. It’s always fun.

Courtois also expressed his desire to try himself in racing once his football career is over, although he also remains realistic about his possibilities.

When I stop playing football, that would be a dream come true, like participating in a GT3 race. But I don’t know my skills, and if I participate in something, I don’t want to be three seconds behind the rest. First I want to know what I am capable of.

The goalkeeper concluded:

But if that were to happen, I would like to get into a car in which I can legally fit with my height. I don’t fit in a Formula car. My head sticks out above the halo in an F4 car, so that wouldn’t be very safe.

Recently, it was reported that Courtois has agreed to a contract extension with Real Madrid, which will run until June 2027.
