Argentina: Return of Visiting Fans After 12 Years of Absence
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced on Thursday the lifting of the ban that prevented visiting fans from entering stadiums, a measure that was in effect for 12 years.
The decision, made after violent incidents, including the death of a spectator in 2013, is part of a gradual reintroduction that will be implemented in the next league matchday.
“This is a historic day because it marks the beginning of the return of visiting fans, allowing clubs that wish to receive them to do so,” stated Claudio Tapia, president of the AFA, at a press conference.

The return of Ángel Di María, world champion, to the highest category of Argentine football has contributed to generating enthusiasm around this decision.
Test events have been scheduled for this weekend, including the presentation of Di María with Rosario Central at the Lanús stadium and River Plate’s visit to Instituto de Córdoba.
Gonzalo Belloso, president of Rosario Central, called on his club’s fans to maintain appropriate behavior regarding the reincorporation of rival supporters.
Javier Alonso, Minister of Security of the Province of Buenos Aires, emphasized that the clubs that wish to receive visiting fans must obtain the approval of the authorities and that the visiting team must guarantee the responsible behavior of their supporters.
