Antony Reveals Feelings About His Manchester United Exit

Brazilian footballer Antony has expressed feeling a “lack of respect” during his last moments at Manchester United, before his transfer to Real Betis. Antony joined Betis on loan last season, before formalizing a permanent transfer for 22 million euros in the summer. During his time between United and his return to Betis, Antony was forced to train separately from his teammates and was not included in the club’s pre-season tour.

“I’m not the type of person who gets involved in controversies, who names people, in fact, I won’t mention anyone’s name here,” Antony told ESPN Brasil.

The player added that he felt a “lack of respect”, and even “a bit of rudeness”, for not receiving a proper greeting. When asked why things didn’t work out at United, Antony commented:

“I am a man who accepts his responsibilities. I believe that matters off the field affected me a lot, in my performance. I know my potential, I know my qualities, I didn’t play in a World Cup in vain, I didn’t return to the national team in vain. I also take responsibility for it not working out, for not performing as I wanted. But I always try to see the positive side of things, going through this process, this time at United, was necessary for me to get to know myself”.
