BILBAO, Spain – Rúben Amorim has stated that he will not seek financial compensation from Manchester United if they decide he is not the right man for the job, following the defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Amorim has two years remaining on the contract he signed when he was appointed in November, and would be entitled to compensation in the event of being fired.
After the painful defeat against the Spurs, the Portuguese coach offered to leave without compensation if the club’s directors decide they no longer want him in charge.
After a run of disappointing results since his arrival, which includes only six Premier League wins in six months, he asked the fans for “faith”.
I have nothing to show the fans, so at the moment it’s a bit of faith. We’ll see. I’m always open. If the board and the fans feel that I’m not the right person, I’ll leave the next day without any conversation about compensation, but I won’t resign.

Amorim added: “I am really confident in my work. And as you can see, I will not change anything in the way I do things.”

United lost 1-0 to Spurs, thanks to a goal from Brennan Johnson just before half-time.
Amorim’s team had 16 shots, but struggled to create clear and significant opportunities.
Micky van de Ven cleared a header from Rasmus Højlund off the line, and Guglielmo Vicario made a good save on a shot by Luke Shaw in stoppage time.
Despite another game in which United failed to score, Amorim argued that his players were better than Spurs that night.
I am not going to talk about the future, tonight we need to deal with the pain of losing this match. It was clear that we were the better team, but we failed to score again. The boys tried everything to win the match. In the future we will be able to evaluate.
