BILBAO, Spain – Rubén Amorim expressed his surprise at the apparent lack of pressure he faces at Manchester United compared to his colleague Ange Postecoglou, who manages Tottenham, despite both teams having had disappointing campaigns in the Premier League.

Manchester United and Tottenham are located in positions 16 and 17 respectively, in the Premier League, preparing to face each other at San Mamés in Bilbao.

Speculation has arisen regarding Postecoglou’s possible dismissal even if Tottenham manages to break their 17-year title drought.

Sources close to the team have indicated that Amorim will keep his position at Old Trafford, regardless of the result of the final and whether the team fails to qualify for the next Champions League.

I don’t know,” Amorim replied when asked about the pressure difference. “It’s complicated to explain.

Amorim added that in clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham, the situation is peculiar, as some coaches are fired after losing some matches. The Portuguese coach believes that the board and the fans value his approach to the club and understand the difficulties they face.

Amorim has achieved six league victories since his appointment in mid-November, contrasting with the performance in the Europa League, where the team has reached its ninth European final.

Manchester United has already secured its worst position in the Premier League and could finish in 17th place, very close to the relegation zone, depending on the weekend’s results.

Despite the criticism, Amorim highlighted that he predicted the problems they would face.

The most important thing is that I know what I’m doing and I explained everything before I started,” added Amorim. “I warned about the storm that was coming. I explained all the problems to the board, I was clear and said that I would not change my mind.

At the press conference, captain Bruno Fernandes intervened humorously when asked about the future of his coach. Before Amorim could answer, Fernandes said: “Who told you he’s not under pressure? He is!”

Amorim, laughing, commented: “He will be a very good coach. But he has to work on his mentality. He doesn’t know how to deal with people.”
