Amorim Responds to Criticism After Manchester United Defeat

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has firmly responded to suggestions of modifying his 3-4-3 system following the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City. Amorim stated that if the club’s management loses faith in his philosophy, “they must change the man.” The United suffered their third defeat of the season, two in the Premier League and one in the League Cup against Grimsby Town of League Two. Pep Guardiola’s team ended their streak of two defeats with an easy victory over their neighbors. This defeat leaves Amorim with a record of only 8 wins in 31 Premier League matches since he replaced Erik ten Hag last November, once again exposing his refusal to abandon the tactical lineup he has used since his arrival at Old Trafford.

I am not going to change my philosophy. If they want me to change, they should change the man.

Faced with reporters’ questions about whether United’s poor results justify a change in formation, Amorim reiterated his intention not to alter his approach. Amorim added: “I understand the questions and accept that it’s not a record that should be held at Manchester United. But there are many things they have no idea about what has happened in the last few months.”

The pressure continues to mount on Ruben Amorim after another defeat, this time against Manchester City.Amorim also stated: “I understand everything. It’s normal [if the fans lose faith], but I don’t accept that we’re not improving. We are improving and the results don’t show it, the record says it all, I understand it.” “My message is that I will do everything. I will give everything. It’s not my decision, the rest. I will do the best I can. I am suffering more than [the fans].” United will face Chelsea at Old Trafford next Saturday, and the pressure on Amorim continues to mount. The former Sporting CP coach claims that he and his players need time to succeed, but he is satisfied with their effort and attitude. Amorim explained: “We played against a coach who has won six Premier League titles and we are building things, trying to fight against these teams. But I am not going to defend myself, it’s always the same question, trying to protect myself. We need to improve.” Amorim concluded: “If I look at the match, last year we drew and won against City and today we were a little better, but in the small details it wasn’t good enough.” “We are building things, but of course we need to earn money.” “I didn’t see any player on my team not give their all. The rest is on me. The disappointment sometimes I feel like we could run more, but I didn’t have that feeling today. It’s my fault, not theirs, and I’m okay with that.”
