Amorim Acknowledges Deficiencies at Manchester United After Draw Against Leeds

Manchester United’s technical director, Ruben Amorim, has expressed his concern about the lack of pace and the need to improve in the final third of the field after the goalless draw against Leeds in the start of the preseason. United, who scored only 44 goals in last season’s Premier League, again showed difficulties in attack, despite the debut of Matheus Cunha, the new signing from Wolves for £62.5 million. Cunha played as a left attacking midfielder, with Bruno Fernandes in a more withdrawn position, a combination that Amorim made clear is not ideal. Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford is expected to arrive, and the Portuguese coach is confident that the Cameroonian international will provide the necessary speed to energize United.

We lack rhythm. Especially in the midfield, it feels difficult to carry the ball.

Amorim also commented: “We create opportunities. We have a lot to do, but it was a first test against a Premier League team with two different teams, a good test.” The connection between Cunha and Bruno Fernandes is not yet consolidated, but Amorim hopes it will improve. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to improve the quality in the final third of the field.
