Brock Purdy Doubtful for Game Against the Cardinals

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Brock Purdy, is still unsure if he will play on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. The decision will be made close to game time, unlike last week.

“We just have to see how I feel at game time,” Purdy said. “I want to play every game. I want to be out there. You only have 17 regular season games, and every game matters, especially a division game against the Cardinals. If you ask me, I’d love to, but I’m trying to be smart with my body here. You never know. We’ll see when the game comes.”

Purdy has been practicing in a limited capacity for two consecutive days due to a toe injury sustained in the initial victory against the Seattle Seahawks. Although the left shoulder injury that was bothering him is no longer an issue, the toe needs to fully recover before he can return to the field. Purdy described the situation as something that is evaluated day by day, showing optimism with the progress of his foot. Coach Kyle Shanahan mentioned Purdy’s injury on September 8, one day after the game against Seattle. Purdy played the entire game and threw the winning touchdown pass, showing no signs of discomfort during the post-game press conference. Shanahan pointed to a 7-yard carry by Purdy in the first half as the play in which he injured his toe. Although he showed no signs of pain at the time, Purdy informed the medical staff about the discomfort after the game. Purdy explained that the injury was an accumulation of plays and moments, and that he felt the pain after the adrenaline subsided. Currently, he is discussing options with the medical and equipment staff, such as orthopedic insoles and additional padding for his shoes.
