Artie Burns misses the entire 2025 season due to injury
Miami Dolphins cornerback Artie Burns will be unable to play the entire 2025 season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) suffered during the team’s first day of training camp. This was confirmed by a source. The Dolphins officially placed Burns on the injured reserve list on Thursday, but did not reveal the nature of his injury. An MRI confirmed the fears of the Dolphins’ medical staff on Thursday, after Burns was injured shortly after the start of Wednesday’s practice. Burns fell to the ground after getting tangled with a teammate during position drills and hit his helmet in frustration. Later, he was seen leaving the field on crutches. Burns signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins this offseason after spending the last three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2017, but he had the opportunity to compete for a starting position in Miami, where an already thin position is now an even more relevant problem.Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that while the team is confident in its current group of cornerbacks, it will always look to improve. “We are confident with the group. That said, we are not closing the door on anything. There are several players we talk about every day, but we are also very excited about some guys who have a lot to prove and know that and are excited about the opportunity.” One day after Burns’ injury, the Dolphins signed veteran cornerback Cornell Armstrong, a player they originally selected in the sixth round of the 2018 draft. Armstrong was not on an NFL roster last season and spent the 2023 season on the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. If you have youth in a position that is developing and you are developing it and you have confidence in it, you are going to have confidence in it before the people who haven’t seen it done.
