The prominent former All Blacks player, Richie Mo’unga, has formalized his return to New Zealand, after reaching a contractual agreement with the Canterbury Crusaders. Mo’unga will fulfill the second season of his contract with the Toshiba Brave Lupus Tokyo in Japan, before joining the Canterbury Rugby for the 2026 and 2027 seasons of the TPC. He will also participate with the Crusaders during the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.

The Crusaders have always been a fundamental part of my life, not only as a player, but also as a person.

Mo’unga expressed his enthusiasm for returning in 2027 and continuing to build on the legacy of the franchise. In addition, he expressed his desire to reconnect with the fans and contribute to the atmosphere both on and off the field. The player will add to his 109 appearances and 1,230 points with the Crusaders, the team with which he debuted in 2016. Crusaders coach Rob Penney believes Mo’unga’s return will be a significant boost for the team.

Richie’s connection with this club is deep, and he is a great man of the Crusaders. We feel really fortunate for the talent we have in the Crusaders and having Richie back will not only improve the team and have a positive influence on the group, but will also ensure that his legacy endures long after he leaves.
