South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus acknowledged that the red card shown to Eben Etzebeth, who came on as a substitute, was deserved after a controversial action against Alex Mann.
The world champions put on a crushing performance, scoring 11 tries and leaving Wales in a difficult situation at the Principality Stadium.
The end of the match had a bitter taste for South Africa, as Etzebeth was sent off in the last minute.
Erasmus also expressed hope for the future of Wales, recalling his participation in South Africa’s record 96-13 victory against them in Pretoria in June 1998, and how a year later he was on the losing side of the Springboks in Cardiff. “I’m referring to ’98 and ’99 because it shows that things can change rapidly,” added Erasmus. “They have support here, and if they can start to have a good streak, things will change.”It was a justified red card. Definitely not the way we would have liked to end the game. The image was not the best.
