Kris Sparre Takes the Helm of Boston Fleet in the PWHL
The PWHL’s Boston Fleet team has announced Kris Sparre as their new head coach, marking a new chapter for the franchise. Sparre, 38, joins the team after a career as an assistant with experience in men’s hockey, replacing Courtney Kessel.
Sparre, a Toronto native, played nine seasons as a forward in minor leagues and in Germany. Previously, he was an assistant coach with Red Bull Salzburg and the San Diego Gulls. Fleet General Manager Danielle Marmer highlighted Sparre’s experience in the AHL, where balancing success with player development is required, considering it a suitable fit.“This is an incredible opportunity to be part of a league that has experienced remarkable growth and momentum in recent seasons,” Sparre said.

The Boston Fleet team has eight remaining players from the roster that reached the final in the inaugural PWHL season. However, they must fill the void left by their 36-year-old captain and league MVP finalist, Hilary Knight, who moved to Seattle.“Our players need to grow and perform in real time, and Kris understands how to create that environment,” Marmer stated.
