Buffalo Sabres Achieve Their First Victory of the Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Sabres got their first lead of the season on Wednesday, thanks to a shot that initially wasn’t going to the net. During a power play in the first period, Jack Quinn took a direct shot from the area that deflected wide to the right and over the net. The puck, after bouncing off the glass, went into the goal by hitting the back of the goalie Leevi Merilainen. Tim Stutzle tied the score for Ottawa in the same period, but the Sabres ultimately prevailed over the Senators with an 8-4 result, thus securing their first victory of the season. Quinn contributed a second goal in the third period. Before this victory, the Sabres had suffered three consecutive defeats, with a cumulative score of 10-2. They fell 4-0 at home against the New York Rangers, and then lost 3-1 both in Boston and at home against Colorado. This is the first time the Sabres have avoided starting the season with an 0-4 record. In the past, they had difficult starts, including an 0-4-1 in 2017 and an 0-6-1 in 2013.
