Vikings’ Rodgers Denounces Racism After Loss; “It’s Real”

EAGAN, Minn. – Minnesota Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers said he has received some of the most racist comments since he began his NFL career. The post was made on Monday on the X platform, following the 28-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Rodgers shared a screenshot on Instagram showing multiple messages with racial slurs. In another message, a social media user wrote: “You are worse than Hitler.” In a separate screenshot, the same person later apologized. Rodgers was the Vikings’ main defender on two key plays that propelled the Eagles, including a 79-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith in the third quarter and a 45-yard reception to A.J. Brown in the fourth quarter that sealed the game. After the game, Rodgers took full responsibility, stating: “I take it personally” and added: “I came here for a reason, and I know I can make those kinds of plays. So I take it personally.”

Rodgers spent the 2024 season with the Eagles before signing a two-year, $15 million free agent contract with the Vikings in March. In Week 3, he became the first player in NFL history to score two defensive touchdowns and force two fumbles in a game. He accomplished all of this in the first half of the Vikings’ 48-14 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Vikings’ next game will be on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Chargers.
