In the midst of the NFL preseason, Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is in the process of rebuilding the relationship with his teammates, following comments made at the end of the 2024 season. Hill missed the last regular season game against the New York Jets and then suggested to reporters that he would like to play elsewhere. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier clarified that Hill never requested a trade, and the player apologized for his statements in February. The quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, spoke on the subject after the team’s first training session. He acknowledged that rebuilding that relationship is not a simple process, but he emphasized that Hill is working to achieve it.

It’s not just with me, it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one who heard that. You guys aren’t the only people who heard that. A lot of people who follow football, who follow the Miami Dolphins, who follow Tyreek, who are his fans, have all seen that. So, when you say something like that, you don’t come back from that with a ‘Hey, I was wrong.’ You have to work on that relationship; you have to rebuild everything again.

Tagovailoa also highlighted the importance of Hill’s maturity and his willingness to be vulnerable. The quarterback noted that Hill is conversing more with his teammates, not only about football, but also about personal matters. Last season was complicated for the Dolphins and for Hill in particular. His numbers, with 959 yards and six touchdowns on 81 receptions, were lower than previous seasons. The team failed to qualify for the playoffs, something that had not happened in Hill’s nine-year NFL career. Hill, who captained the team on three occasions, admitted that he will have to earn that position again this year. In addition, he has expressed his desire to focus on football and improve his performance.

This offseason, I’ve been working hard. I want to see what it’s like when I focus only on football, on myself, and on my family. I feel like I haven’t really given the best version of myself, of Tyreek, in my entire career. I’ve always been trying to be here, be there.

Linebacker Jordyn Brooks commented that he doesn’t think confidence in Hill has been lost, but that this is the time to build and strengthen relationships. Hill stated that he wants to focus on football this season, setting aside other activities.
