Seahawks Buscan Recuperar la Ventaja de Local: Medidas Contra la Reventa de Entradas
In an effort to revitalize what was one of the biggest home-field advantages in the NFL, the Seahawks are taking steps to control the resale of season tickets to fans of rival teams.
Through a letter addressed to season ticket holders, the team has communicated that eligibility for renewal could be affected if it is determined that the tickets were primarily used for resale.
This decision comes after a season in which the Seahawks recorded a 3-6 home record, and following complaints from key players about the significant presence of opposing fans at Lumen Field.
At the end of each season, accounts that resell the majority of their season tickets will be contacted and given an opportunity to respond before any decision is made regarding renewal eligibility.
Team Statement
The Green Bay Packers, who also have a long waiting list for their season tickets, are implementing similar measures to maximize the presence of their own fans at Lambeau Field. In February, the team announced that it would continue with the practice of not renewing season tickets to accounts that have sold 100% of their tickets for regular season games for several years.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Indianapolis Colts are also among the teams that have tried to curb this practice.
Between 2012 and 2019, the Seahawks had the second-best home winning percentage (.750) in the NFL. Their 7-1 home record in 2020 was the best in the league, although there were no fans at Lumen Field that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, in the last four seasons, Seattle is tied for 20th (.471) in home winning percentage.
We have to make Lumen roar again.
John Schneider, general manager
After a loss in October against Buffalo, quarterback Geno Smith commented that he sometimes felt the Seahawks were playing a road game due to the large number of Bills fans at Lumen Field. Packers fans also made their presence felt in a December win over Seattle, with audible “Go Pack Go” chants from the press box, through the television broadcast, and on the field.
I know in the first quarter, second or third game of the game, it got really loud in there, and I looked around and there were a lot of Green Bay fans. So they did a great job traveling. But wishing the 12s didn’t sell as many tickets as they did to make sure we kept the home field advantage.
DK Metcalf, wide receiver
This situation has had an impact in both directions for the Seahawks, whose fans consistently travel to the stadiums of rival teams. After defeating the Atlanta Falcons in October, achieving one of the seven away wins that tied the franchise record last season, coach Mike Macdonald acknowledged all the Seahawks fans who made themselves heard at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The primary focus for the upcoming offseason will be to revitalize the atmosphere at Lumen Field, according to coach Macdonald.
