Spencer Rattler will be the Saints’ Starting Quarterback

The New Orleans Saints have announced that Spencer Rattler will be the starting quarterback for the start of the 2025 season. The team made this decision on Tuesday, marking the end of an intense competition for the position. Rattler’s selection comes after a long battle with rookie Tyler Shough.

We are excited for Spence and Tyler is in a great position to continue developing.

Kellen Moore, Saints Coach
Jake Haener also competed for the position at the beginning of the summer, but the competition was narrowed down to two players during training camp. The competition for the quarterback position extended throughout the summer, and the final decision was made after the Saints’ last preseason game against the Denver Broncos. Rattler, selected in the fifth round of the 2024 draft, will start his seventh NFL game when the Saints face the Arizona Cardinals next month. In 2024, Rattler played in seven games and started six, replacing Derek Carr, who was injured. In those six starts, the team did not achieve any victories. Carr, who seemed ready to be the Saints’ starter this year under new coach Kellen Moore, retired in May due to a shoulder injury.
