SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The San Francisco 49ers received mixed injury news. After losing linebacker Fred Warner to a season-ending right ankle dislocation, the team is expecting the return of several key figures.

Kittle close to returning

Tight end George Kittle, who has been on the injured reserve list since Week 2 due to a right hamstring strain, will begin his 21-day practice window this week. There is a possibility that he will play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night.

That is the hope.

Possible Returns for Purdy and Pearsall

Quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) and receiver Ricky Pearsall (right knee) could also return to practice this week. Both will be evaluated on Wednesday and their status will be determined day-to-day from then on. Kittle injured his hamstring in the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on September 7. Purdy suffered a toe injury in the same game. Pearsall was also injured against the Jaguars, falling on his right knee while attempting a difficult catch.

Warner out for the rest of the season

Fred Warner will have ankle surgery on Tuesday. He is expected to make a full recovery for the offseason program in the spring.

I think, generally, things like this take about three months. But, I haven’t asked all the questions that you guys are asking me yet, but I assume it will be fine for the preseason training and things like that.
