Trey Hendrickson Sticks with the Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson is persisting in his position of not playing in the upcoming season. Hendrickson spoke with Laura Rutledge of Alofoke Deportes in Landover, Maryland, before the Bengals’ 31-17 preseason victory against the Washington Commanders on Monday night. The basis of his stance in contract negotiations remains firm. Rutledge reported that Hendrickson informed him that both he and the team are close to an agreement regarding the total average annual salary and the length of the contract. The sticking point remains the guaranteed money in a possible extension. Cincinnati’s stance of not providing guaranteed salary after the first season has stalled progress. At the start of the preseason, the Bengals allowed Hendrickson to seek a team willing to acquire the All-Pro player, but nothing has materialized so far. The player, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, who will turn 31 this fall, has a salary of $16 million this season. He ended his absence on July 30 and has been with the team since then, although he has not been practicing. Coming off his best season, leading the NFL with 17.5 total sacks in 2024. Hendrickson’s comments to Rutledge on Monday are among the few he has made since reporting to training camp.Recognition is not something I pursue. It’s not. I think I’ve made my statements clear. Security is something I value and [telling] my wife where we’re going to play. Those are the things that matter to me.
