The Cleveland Browns have secured the signing of experienced safety Damontae Kazee, as confirmed by a league source to Alofoke Deportes this Monday.
Kazee, 31, arrives after spending the last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he started in five games.
The need to reinforce the safety position arose for the Browns after losing two key players this offseason. Juan Thornhill was released by the team and subsequently signed a one-year contract with the Steelers. In addition, Rodney McLeod, who played the last two seasons in Cleveland, announced his retirement after 13 seasons in the NFL.
In December 2023, Kazee was suspended for the last three regular season games without pay after a hard hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., which left him in concussion protocol. The suspension was due to repeated violation of the rules designed to protect the health and safety of the players.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2017 draft by the Atlanta Falcons, Kazee has started in 63 games with the Falcons, Steelers, and Dallas Cowboys. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 17 interceptions, 24 passes defended, and 363 tackles.
