Bijan Robinson Seeks Excellence with the Help of Christian McCaffrey

Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson has made his goal clear: to emulate the success of the versatile Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers. To achieve this, Robinson took significant steps during the offseason, seeking advice and direct training from McCaffrey. Robinson, in his third year in the NFL, spent almost a month training with McCaffrey in Los Angeles. During this time, both athletes focused on joint training and, especially, on recovery, a crucial aspect in McCaffrey’s preparation. In this initiative, Luke McCaffrey, wide receiver for the Washington Commanders and brother of Christian, also participated. The team was guided by Randy Huntington, a renowned track and field coach.

“It was great, we exchanged a lot of tips and learned a lot from each other on the field,” Robinson commented. “We worked throughout the month, I was able to see how he worked, and he was able to see how I worked, and we combined it, it was great.”

This collaboration allowed Robinson to learn advanced movements and techniques, while McCaffrey also benefited from Robinson’s perspectives.

Last season, Robinson proved his worth, ranking among the league’s best in yards from scrimmage and rushing yards, in addition to recording a high number of touchdowns. McCaffrey, for his part, has been a leader in yards from the line of scrimmage and has several seasons of more than 1,000 rushing yards, demonstrating his consistency and performance throughout his career. Robinson highlighted the importance of recovery in McCaffrey’s approach, ensuring that he felt in optimal condition before each training session.

“It’s important to make sure your body is in the best possible shape before you get out on the field,” Robinson said. “His focus on recovery is impressive.”

During their training, Robinson and McCaffrey used an innovative red light therapy in an elevation chamber called Stratosphere ATC, a method that seeks to optimize recovery and performance.
Stratosphere offers altitude-like training, without the need to travel to mountainous areas. Its creator, Bobby Williams, claims that this system can increase erythropoietin (EPO) levels and VO2 max, promoting red blood cell production and lung capacity. Williams believes Stratosphere could be a common element in NFL facilities. Robinson, for his part, has already expressed his interest in the Falcons acquiring one.

“There are so many different things that we try to take full advantage of, and if you can find an edge, we do it,” McCaffrey commented.

Williams highlighted the competitiveness between both players during training, but emphasized their mutual support. McCaffrey described Robinson as a special player and expressed his enthusiasm for having him on his training team. On October 19th, in the “Sunday Night Football” game, Robinson and McCaffrey will face each other on opposite sides of the field. Outside of competition, both players have built a brotherhood, sharing knowledge and experiences.

“I think it’s great to have McCaffrey as a brother, so I can learn all the great things he’s done on the field, and vice versa,” Robinson said.
