Mavericks Schedule Private Visit with Cooper Flagg, Projected Number 1 Pick of the 2025 NBA Draft

The Dallas Mavericks, holders of the first pick in the 2025 NBA draft, have scheduled a private visit with Cooper Flagg, considered the top prospect to be chosen in said draft.

The visit is scheduled for June 17th. The Mavericks have made it clear, both publicly and privately, that they plan to select Flagg when it comes time for the draft pick.

The Mavericks secured the first overall pick, despite having only a 1.8% chance in the draft lottery, moving up ten spots and tying the biggest jump by any team in lottery history.

Flagg, a 6-foot-9 forward, has been considered the favorite to be the first pick since August 2023. At that time, he announced his decision to graduate from high school a year early and enroll in college at 17 years old.

Despite being one of the most highly anticipated freshmen to enter college basketball in several years, Flagg exceeded expectations by winning nearly every major national player of the year award. He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists, and led the Blue Devils (35-4) to a Final Four appearance.

It is expected that the selection of Flagg will allow the Mavericks’ management to turn the page on the Luka Doncic era. The Mavericks also have crucial negotiations with All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, who has a player option of $43.9 million for the 2025-26 season. Sources indicate that Flagg does not plan to make additional visits, and both parties agree on his arrival as the first pick in Dallas, where he will have the opportunity to immediately fight for a playoff appearance alongside several key veterans.

The NBA draft will take place from June 25 to 26 at the Barclays Center in New York.
