Jason Kidd Extends His Contract with the Mavericks

Coach Jason Kidd has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks, the team announced on Tuesday. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Our entire organization deeply appreciates Coach Kidd’s leadership, focus, and positive energy,” said team governor Patrick Dumont.

Dumont added that Kidd embodies the values the organization seeks in a leader and that they are happy for him to continue leading the team in its goal of achieving championships for Dallas. This extension comes after the interest shown by the New York Knicks in Kidd, before they hired Mike Brown for their coaching vacancy. The Mavericks did not allow the Knicks to interview Kidd, who has a record of 179-149 during his four years in Dallas. Under Kidd’s direction, the Mavericks reached the Western Conference finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals in 2024.

“I am grateful for the trust that Patrick and General Manager Nico Harrison have in me, and for the confidence we have built while working together to build a team that Dallas can be proud of,” Kidd said in a statement.

Kidd also highlighted that he has a great group of talented and coachable players. In addition, he mentioned that it is special to be able to continue coaching the team that drafted him and with which he won a title as a player. Kidd hopes to continue working to bring another championship to Dallas. Kidd’s previous contract extension occurred during the Mavericks’ 2024 playoff run, when the Los Angeles Lakers showed interest in interviewing him.
