STAMFORD, Conn. – Former NBA guard Ben Gordon has had multiple criminal charges against him dropped, following his 2023 arrest after an incident at a juice shop in Connecticut. Gordon, who was key in UConn’s victory in the 2004 NCAA national championship, completed a probation program approved last year by a state judge. The weapons and threats charges that the basketball player faced will now be removed from his record.
His lawyer, Darnell Crosland, stated that Gordon has been dedicated to improving his mental health since the arrest. Crosland highlighted the former player’s dedication and his ability to manage daily stress. Gordon’s arrest occurred in Stamford on his 40th birthday, a few hours after UConn won its fifth NCAA men’s basketball championship. Police reported that several 911 calls reported aggressive and strange behavior by Gordon, who continued to act erratically when officers arrived. Police subdued and handcuffed him outside the store. Gordon has spoken and written about his bipolar disorder and depression, factors that, according to him, have influenced several of his arrests over the years. Selected in the third overall position of the 2004 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls, Gordon played 11 seasons in the league. As a rookie with the Bulls, he won the NBA Sixth Man award. After five seasons in Chicago, he played for Detroit, Charlotte, and Orlando.Mental health is really important and the court saw his commitment to doing the right thing in life and that’s why they sealed his record and dismissed all charges.
