Furthermore, it marked the first time since Aaron Boone’s home run in 2003 that the Yankees eliminated Boston in the playoffs, breaking a streak of three consecutive series won by the Red Sox (2004, 2018, and 2021).
The Yankees join a select group, being only the third team to win a Wild Card Series after losing Game 1, matching the 2020 Athletics and the 2020 Padres.
Now, the Bronx team prepares for the Divisional Series against Toronto, which will begin this Saturday at the Rogers Centre, with the aim of defending their American League title and getting closer to the World Series.
