Yankees Advance to Division Series After Defeating Red Sox

On an unforgettable night at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees secured their spot in the Division Series by defeating the Boston Red Sox 4-0 in Game 3 of the American League Wild Card Series.

The undisputed hero of the day was rookie right-hander Cam Schlittler, who shone with a performance for the ages. Schlittler pitched eight scoreless innings, striking out 12 batters and setting a franchise record for a postseason debutant. The 24-year-old pitcher demonstrated his composure and power on the most demanding stage.

The Yankees’ offensive attack made itself felt early, taking advantage of defensive errors by Boston in the fourth inning. Cody Bellinger started the rally with a double, followed by RBI singles from Dominican Amed Rosario and Anthony Volpe. Austin Wells completed the offense with a ground ball that drove in two more runs.

With the advantage secured, Schlittler took charge of controlling the opposing offense, completing one of the best performances by a rookie in franchise history.

The triumph held special significance as it commemorated the 47th anniversary of Bucky Dent’s iconic home run, precisely against the Red Sox. Furthermore, it marked the first time since Aaron Boone’s home run in 2003 that the Yankees eliminated Boston in the playoffs, breaking a streak of three consecutive series won by the Red Sox (2004, 2018, and 2021).

The Yankees join a select group, being only the third team to win a Wild Card Series after losing Game 1, matching the 2020 Athletics and the 2020 Padres.

Now, the Bronx team prepares for the Divisional Series against Toronto, which will begin this Saturday at the Rogers Centre, with the aim of defending their American League title and getting closer to the World Series.
