UASD Crowned Champion in the University Baseball League
The team from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) won the title of champion in the fourth edition of the University Baseball League, after defeating Unapec in an exciting final series agreed to a 3-2. The event, organized by the Directorate of the National Baseball Commissioner (DCNB), featured the BanReservas Cup as the main prize.
The uasdianos demonstrated their resilience by recovering from an initial defeat last Saturday, where the score was 12 runs to 0. On Sunday, the team was victorious in the two scheduled matches.
The scores of the decisive matches were 7 runs to 2 and 8 to 2, respectively, sealing UASD’s victory in the grand final.
This triumph marks the first time UASD conquers the crown in a final series, while for Unapec it represents its second failed attempt in this instance.
Willger De Jesús, the technical director of UASD, led his team to victory, becoming the fourth different university to lift the trophy in the same number of tournaments, joining Unphu (2022), Unapec (2023) and Utesa from the previous year, which highlights the high competitiveness of the league.
Anderson Martínez and Raidyn García were the winning pitchers, while Manuel López and Michael D’Oleo suffered the loss. In Saturday’s game, Daniel Santos was the winning pitcher for Unapec, and Jeremy Sánchez the loser.
The most outstanding players for the champions were Angel Linares and Miguel De la Cruz, who each connected two doubles, and Jesus Monegro, with a tubey and a single. For Unapec, Jose Santana stood out with a home run, a double and a single, and Hansel Ulloa, with a tubey and a hit.
Miguel De la Cruz and Manuel López, Most Valuable Players
In the awards ceremony, Miguel De la Cruz, from UASD, and Manuel López, from Unapec, were recognized as the Most Valuable Players (MVP) of the tournament. De la Cruz dominated several offensive categories, while López recorded a 4-0 record in the regular season. Both received trophies for their outstanding performance.
PUCMM Obtains Third Place
In the third-place game, Pucmm defeated Ucateba with a score of 8-4. Luis Hernández was the winning pitcher, and Brayan Cuevas suffered the loss.
Awards and Recognitions
Diogenes De la Cruz, assistant to Junior Noboa, National Baseball Commissioner, presented the champion’s trophy to UASD, congratulating players and directors for their effort. Trophies were also awarded to Unapec, for second place, and to Pucmm, for third place, in addition to the MVP recognitions.
Noboa’s work was highlighted, who, from his position as Baseball Commissioner, continues to promote the participation of young people in sports and their academic training.
In addition, more than 200 educational scholarships have been awarded for national and international universities through the League, which has allowed many young people to find job opportunities in Major League organizations and other baseball circuits.
