United States Dominates Dominican Republic in the U-17 Pan American Cup
Tegucigalpa, Honduras – The United States U-17 women’s national team maintained its perfect record in the Pan American Cup by defeating the Dominican Republic in three sets, solidifying its position in the tournament being held at the Jorge Galeano Gymnasium. The Americans demonstrated their superiority with partials of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-14, securing their place in the next round as leaders of Group A. Puerto Rico, after a close match, achieved second place in the group and also advanced to the quarterfinals. The Dominican Republic, for its part, will compete for the seventh to ninth place positions. The United States displayed a dominant offensive game from the start, establishing a significant lead thanks to attacks from Mesa Jameson, Jael Smith, and Naomi Stevenson. The Dominican Republic struggled to find its rhythm, complicating their performance in the first set. In the second set, the Dominicans improved their offensive performance, with Shanty Pérez leading the attacks. However, the United States maintained control, with Piper Coady contributing to the attack. The third set began with the Dominican Republic taking the lead, driven by Pérez and captain Leandry Almonte. The United States responded quickly, tying the score and regaining control of the match, sealing the victory with a powerful spike by McKenzie Andrews. The match statistics reflected the American dominance, with a clear advantage in attacks, blocks, and direct serves. Although the Dominican Republic committed fewer errors, it was not enough to counteract the power of their rival. Jameson Mesa and Piper Coady, both from the United States, were the top scorers with 14 points each.
