Tiger Woods Faces DUI Charges
The Martin County Prosecutor’s Office has filed formal charges against renowned golfer Tiger Woods. The accusation stems from a traffic incident that occurred on March 27 in Jupiter, Florida, where Woods is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The legal process began in a Stuart court, where the charges were read in the athlete’s absence. According to police reports, Woods was arrested showing signs of physical deterioration, including excessive sweating and lethargy.
Authorities revealed that the golfer was carrying two hydrocodone pills, an opioid pain reliever. Although no alcohol was detected in his system, Woods refused to submit to a urine test, which led to the charge of driving under the influence of substances.Next Steps in the Case
The next hearing is scheduled for May 12. On this date, it will be decided whether the case moves towards a trial or if an agreement is reached between the parties. Woods, who has pleaded not guilty, is currently outside the United States, but his defense assures that he will return in the coming days.
After the accident, Woods announced an indefinite break from his career to focus on his health. He is recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon and his seventh back surgery, injuries that have kept him away from competition.
Despite his inactivity, Woods had considered returning to the circuit at the Masters in Augusta, the first major of the season, which would have marked his return after almost two years away from the fields.
