Jorge Tavárez Will Open for the Águilas Cibaeñas in the Round Robin
The leader of the Águilas Cibaeñas, Luis “Pipe” Urueta, has confirmed that Jorge Tavárez will be the starting pitcher for the team’s first game in the Semifinal Series All Against All of the Dominican Republic’s autumn-winter baseball tournament.
The championship, organized by LIDOM, is dedicated to Juan Marichal, a Hall of Fame immortal from Cooperstown.
The team, which secured first place in the regular season, will begin its participation in the Round Robin on Saturday the 27th, facing the Leones del Escogido at the Cibao Stadium starting at 5:00 PM.
Tavárez stood out as one of the most consistent pitchers for the Águilas during the regular season, proving to be an effective arm for the team. His performance culminated in a 4-1 record in nine appearances, of which seven were as a starter, achieving a winning percentage of .800.
In 36.2 innings pitched, Tavárez maintained an excellent effectiveness of 1.49, allowing only seven runs, six of them earned. In addition, he struck out 27 batters, conceded seven walks and allowed 24 hits, with a WHIP of 0.90.
To reinforce their squad for the semi-final, the Eagles made moves in the Re-entry Draft.
They selected five pitchers and one position player with the aim of strengthening their pitching staff. The pitchers chosen were Óscar De La Cruz, Misael Tamarez, Yúnior Marte, Carlos Belén and Andrew Pérez, while Cristhian Adames was the position player selected, recognized for his defensive versatility.
Las Águilas Cibaeñas seek to maintain the good pace shown in the regular season and start their path to the championship final with strength.
