Leones del Escogido bolster their rotation with Travis Lakins
The Leones del Escogido have announced the incorporation of right-handed pitcher Travis Lakins to strengthen their starting rotation. The news was confirmed by the Baseball Operations Management, led by general manager Carlos Peña. Lakins, 31, arrives after a standout performance in the 2024-25 season with the Criollos de Caguas in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (Puerto Rico). There, he recorded a 3-2 record, an ERA of 2.10, and a WHIP of 1.07, accumulating 34 strikeouts in 34.1 innings. During the summer, Lakins debuted in the Mexican Baseball League with the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna, where he obtained a record of 9-3, with 75 strikeouts in 95.1 innings, a shutout and an ERA of 4.72. The Lions’ new import also has experience in the Major Leagues, having pitched between 2019 and 2022 with the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. In 68 appearances, he accumulated 87.1 innings, with an ERA of 4.84 and 75 strikeouts. His repertoire includes a four-seam fastball that reaches 93 mph, an 84 mph slider, an 85 mph changeup, an 81 mph curveball, and a 92 mph sinker. Lakins will take the place on the reinforcement roster of the Panamanian infielder Jonathan Araúz, whose contract with the scarlet team recently ended.Escogido’s Rotation for the Weekend
